Training Program
A Program for Cleveland. Powered by Cleveland.
Found Surface and Open Threads are launching a new training-to-employment pipeline in Cleveland—designed to make sewing education accessible and transform it into real, high-quality careers.
Apparel training and apparel jobs rarely exist in the same place. People are often trained in one setting, then pushed into an industry that exploits labor overseas, pays poorly, and offers little long-term opportunity. The gap between learning the craft and building a career has become wide—and most training programs don’t address the reality of what modern, ethical manufacturing should look like.
A pathway that connects skill-building directly to real, high-quality, domestic work. A system where people can learn on the same machinery, workflows, and standards used in an actual factory—without being funneled into exploitative environments. The industry has needed training that leads to equitable opportunity, not dead ends.
We’re creating a partnership that aligns training with real, sustainable jobs in modern apparel manufacturing. Trainees work on the same technology, processes, and quality expectations used at Found Surface—giving them a direct line from education to meaningful employment. Instead of sending people into an industry built on low wages and poor conditions, we’re building a pathway that keeps talent, opportunity, and dignity here.
Training With Purpose
Powered by our private-label patterns and production process, the Industrial Sewing program at Open Threads equips participants with the skills needed to thrive in modern apparel manufacturing.
Participants who complete the program are guaranteed an interview for a three-month independent contract, with the opportunity to move into part-time and full-time employment. This creates a clear, reliable pathway into a long-term vocational career.
Who This Is For?
For people who want to learn sewing skills, start a new career, and work in a modern, design-led production environment.
