Sourcing Policy
At Found Surface, we believe that thoughtful material sourcing is the foundation of exceptional product development. To maintain clarity, efficiency, and transparency, the following policy defines how sourcing operates within our development and production processes.
1. Definition of Sourcing
For the purposes of Found Surface operations, “sourcing” is defined as:
Any facilitation of discovering, researching, or ordering materials, trims, yarns, fabrics, or hardware for product development and/or production.
This includes identifying suitable mills or vendors, requesting swatches or samples, and managing communication between suppliers and the Found Surface team.
2. Found Surface Sourcing Services
Found Surface offers comprehensive sourcing services for clients who wish to delegate this process.
• Fee: $1,250 per style
• Scope: Includes all materials, trims, hardware, and necessary components required to achieve the product’s design and performance goals.
• Deliverables: Recommended material options, supplier details, cost structure, and lead-time guidance.
This service is ideal for clients seeking full support in material discovery and alignment with Found Surface’s development and manufacturing standards.
3. Client-Directed Sourcing
Clients are also welcome and encouraged to conduct independent sourcing using the Found Surface Sourcing Guide — a curated resource connecting desired end products to their optimal textile categories and recommended fabric types.
Once Production Services begin, the purchasing and coordination of materials becomes the client’s responsibility. All client-supplied materials must comply with Found Surface’s Material Receiving & Shipment Policy to ensure proper tracking and accountability within our facility.
4. Core Material Library
Found Surface maintains a robust Core Material Library, designed to simplify and accelerate the development process.
This library includes:
• No-MOQ, never-out-of-stock yarns, yardages, trims, and notions.
• 500-unit MOQ options from our partner mills that are readily available and pre-vetted for quality and compliance.
Utilizing materials from the Core Material Library eliminates the need for paid sourcing services and supports efficient production planning with minimal lead time.
5. Purpose and Impact
This policy ensures that:
• Sourcing expectations are clearly defined between Found Surface and the client.
• All materials entering our development and production pipelines are properly documented, tracked, and compliant with operational standards.
• Clients are empowered to make informed decisions using our tools and resources while maintaining the option for full-service support when needed.
